The tradition of academic excellence and the educational vigor of the distinguished University create a stimulating environment for M.Sc study at the Department of Chemistry, Anna University. The M.Sc. Program prepares students for careers in industries that involve independent scientific investigations. Through a combination of core courses, electives and interaction with faculty and research personnel, the students are provided with a comprehensive education in advanced Level.
The programme is a four-semester course, spanning over two academic years. The evaluation is based on the credit system on a scale of 10 points. The student has to earn a minimum of 72 credits for the successful completion of the Degree. The intake of students is 30.
The Masters programme is a process, not only of gaining knowledge, but also of becoming a professional. The highlights of the course are the specialized Applied Chemistry subjects, regular laboratory and field work, seminars and invited lectures, participation in an intensive industrial training and a research project, done as part of the MSc Dissertation. The Department of Chemistry is periodically organizing Summer / Winter programmes, continuing education programmes, refresher courses and workshops for teachers from Engineering colleges and higher secondary schools and also research scholars. National and International Conferences and Seminars are organized from time to time to facilitate interaction among scientific community engaged in thrust areas of research. The Department has also been regularly organizing a short-term training program on managing water chemistry related problems in power stations for the Engineers and Chemists of TANGEDCO. Industrial consultancy and testing works are being undertaken by the Department.
